Things to do in Jyväskylä
Himos Ski Resort
Himos is one of the most popular ski resorts in Finland and it’s located a short drive away from Jyväskylä. Himos organises yearly an incredible amount of events that are especially popular among the youth – everything from Midsummer celebration to smaller Aprés-skis. Himos, located in Jämsä, is known as the center of ‘Snow Finland’.
Capital of Alvar Aalto
Jyväskylä is known as the home town of Alvar Aalto. He went to school, had a family and started his world renowned career in Jyväskylä. The city displays his work from early career to creations of the final years. The Alvar Aalto museum is the best known monument.
Harju and the Vesilinna viewing tower
The famous area called Harju is located near the center of Jyväskylä and it has an incredible view over the center to the lake Jyväsjärvi. You get the best view from the viewing platform on top of Vesilinna tower. The tower also has a restaurant and nature museum of Middle Finland. There is a joke saying that the bell in the tower shows the official time of the city.
